For four days, choose a base with a direct link to central Amsterdam and divide the city into Museumplein, canals and Jordaan, the historic centre, and one short Noord extension. Book no more than one main museum per day and confirm the cruise pier before shaping that day. Check NS for the airport leg and GVB for city transport.
How I would structure Amsterdam
My approach to Amsterdam: stay near a direct tram or metro stop rather than changing area each night. Keep arrival day for a short canal walk, and protect a generous margin on departure day for luggage and the Schiphol connection.
The useful choice is not how many museums fit. Pick one main Museumplein collection and keep a second only as a rain option, leaving enough room to experience the city on foot.

More museums
Book one main museum and leave the second for another morning. Two major collections in one day usually squeeze out Vondelpark or De Pijp.
More neighbourhoods
Keep one timed admission and use the afternoon for Jordaan, markets or Noord according to energy and weather.
Transport
Use NS for Schiphol planning and GVB for city journeys. Buy around your actual routes, not the promise of a universal pass.
Four days following the canal rings
Day 1 · Arrival
Transfer to your base, walk the canal belt and eat nearby. These are three priorities and none relies on timed admission.
Day 2 · Museumplein
One museum, a Vondelpark break and De Pijp. If you book two museums, make the second optional.
Day 3 · Jordaan and cruise
Jordaan, the historic centre and a cruise from the confirmed pier. Leave time between the walk and boarding.
Day 4 · Noord or a market
Choose one short extension, return to your base and protect the departure transfer. Avoid a late timed booking.
