Bangkok in 4 days: river, rail, temples and Ayutthaya
A practical route with TDAC, BTS/MRT, boats, temple clothing, heat and an honest Ayutthaya decision.

Quick answer
For four days, stay near a useful BTS, MRT or river connection and group the city by network: Rattanakosin by boat, Chinatown by MRT and modern Bangkok by elevated rail. Protect arrival day, keep each day to three priorities and make Ayutthaya reversible. TDAC is not a visa, and temple access should be checked through official sources.
First decide how you want Bangkok to feel
The map can mislead because a short journey may be swallowed by traffic or heat. I would choose a base within walking distance of a useful rail link or pier. Keep the first afternoon around the hotel for food, cash, transport and rest.
Departure needs breathing room too. Finish the last activity near your base and plan the airport transfer from the actual terminal, not from the word Bangkok. A common mistake is treating every map point as if road travel were neutral. Save the pier, station and matching official source for each day in Trekky.
River, rail or road: each network solves a different Bangkok
River for Rattanakosin
The Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun form a coherent day when official access and clothing rules are confirmed. Three priorities are enough in the heat.
MRT for Chinatown
Arrive by rail, walk through Talat Noi and save Yaowarat for later. Do not add a distant temple simply to complete a list.
BTS for the modern corridor
Siam, one house museum and a park or viewpoint work better than jumping between both banks. Leave road transport for the final leg.

Day 1 · Bangkok base
Sleep in Bangkok. Arrive, take a nearby walk and prepare temple clothing; make no fragile booking.
Day 2 · Bangkok base
Rattanakosin and the river: Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. Confirm clothing and access changes before leaving.
Day 3 · Bangkok base
Chinatown and Talat Noi, or the modern corridor during heavy rain. Choose one night experience.
Day 4 · Bangkok base
Choose Ayutthaya only with return transport resolved and energy for a long day. Plan B: a short walk by the base, an indoor lunch and a recovery afternoon without crossing the city or depending on opening times.
