Yes, Cádiz old town works well as a one-day walk if you use the car only to arrive and choose one loop rather than a string of detours. With a full day, prioritise the Cathedral and Campo del Sur, La Viña and La Caleta. If you arrive after lunch or the heat becomes tiring, shorten the Atlantic section and keep a long break.
How I would organise it
I would stay or park near an old-town access point and walk from there. A car helps you reach Cádiz; inside the centre it adds turns, heat and an awkward return to the starting point.
A common mistake is saving every monument as a separate stop. I would choose three priorities and connect them in one direction, checking variable opening information on official sources before setting out.
How should you enter Cádiz without starting with a search?
Arriving by train
The station places the old town within reach. Start near the Cathedral and avoid retracing the route at the end.
Arriving by car
Choose a parking option before entering and check access and price that day. A space is never guaranteed.
Arriving after lunch
Reduce the loop to the Cathedral, La Viña and La Caleta. The consequence is leaving the longer section for another visit.
Morning, pause and the Atlantic edge

Take a long old-town pause. In hot weather, do not turn midday into a rushed link to La Caleta.

Is a car worthwhile inside Cádiz?
For the old town
It rarely adds a practical advantage: walking preserves the loop and avoids searching for another space.
For continuing along the coast
It may help later, but return to the departure point first. Combining beach and old town without margin usually stretches the day.
Do not finish far from your way back
