Lisbon in 4 days: Sintra, districts and transport

Choosing the right street saves more effort than collecting viewpoints. For this itinerary, consider Baixa or the Rossio area for nearby walks and connections; check the actual route from the station to your accommodation, including stairs and lifts. Alfama may suit you if atmosphere matters more and you are comfortable carrying luggage uphill.

This route allows four sightseeing days and four nights in Lisbon, arriving the previous evening and leaving after the final day. If you fly out on day four, keep that day to a walk near your accommodation. Do not schedule Sintra before a flight. If you have limited mobility, replace climbs with confirmed accessible stops and check metro lift status.

Use official journey planners to connect your base with each day’s first stop. The airport has a metro connection, but your accommodation journey also includes changes, exits and luggage. Keep your ticket and validate at entry and exit; do not assume every pass covers all operators or Sintra.

For Sintra, check CP trains from Rossio to Sintra. You then need a separate transfer from the station towards Pena; the train does not reach the palace. Parques de Sintra advises about 30 additional minutes from the park gate to the palace entrance. Add all three legs and waiting time before choosing your slot. The most fragile leg is Lisbon–Sintra–Pena. If disruption eats into your buffer, read the change conditions before travelling; do not assume late admission is allowed. The shorter alternative is a Lisbon day, moving Sintra to another available date.

Can I see Lisbon in three days and include Sintra? Yes, if you accept two city days and one excursion. Four days give this route more breathing room; if neighbourhoods are your priority, skip Sintra.

Is a tourist card worthwhile? Add up only the journeys and admissions you will use, check exclusions and compare separate purchases. Do not reshape your trip to justify a pass.

What should I do if it rains? Swap a hilly day for the Oceanário or a confirmed open indoor visit. Rainy days can also sell out: check availability before travelling across town.
