For four days, stay at one base with simple transport and separate the two bookings that shape the trip: ancient Rome and the Vatican Museums. Give each its own day, keep the historic centre for walking, and use Trastevere as a flexible afternoon. Two anchor tickets, two flexible afternoons
Rome is organised around two admissions: choose one base near Termini, Monti, Prati or a direct arrival link and keep all four nights there. Leave the first walk untimed and protect luggage and transport margin on departure.
The Colosseum area and Vatican are not interchangeable pieces. Fix their days first, then build gentler walks around them that can be shortened without losing a booking.

Ancient Rome
Buy through the Archaeological Park channel and check exactly what the product includes. Leave margin for access and heat.
Vatican
Use the official ticket site and reserve a broad time block. Afterwards choose Prati or rest rather than another major collection.
Tourist pass
Compare it with admissions and journeys you already plan. Do not count savings until current inclusions and conditions are verified.

Day 1 · Arrival and centre
