Bali in 7 days: two bases, honest transfers and light luggage
A realistic week between the south and Ubud, covering entry, tourist levy, drivers, road safety, rain and minimal base changes.

Quick answer
With six nights in Bali, I would use two real bases: Ubud for the interior and one specific southern area for the coast and departure. I would not change hotels every day or assume stable road times. Resolve visa and tourist levy through official portals, confirm each transfer with the accommodation and carry a one-day bag in case your suitcase arrives later.
Two bases, two ways to use them
Without a scooter · Ubud + south
Sleep three nights in Ubud and three in one southern area. Book a driver or transfer for long days and walk only where the setting allows.
Driver on selected days
Keep the same bases and hire specific routes rather than open-ended availability. Confirm pickup, waiting and return in writing.
Final night and flight
If the flight is early or traffic is a concern, place the last night in the south. Never turn “near the airport” into a promise of minutes.
Six nights where every transfer has a consequence
Nights 1–3 · Ubud
Sleep in Ubud. Use a short arrival day, one interior day with no more than three stops and one flexible day for rest or the nearby area.
Transfer · Ubud to the south
Treat this as a changeover day ending with sleep at the southern base. If luggage travels separately or is forwarded, carry documents, medication, water and one change of clothes. The mistake is adding a timed stop. Plan B: go directly to the accommodation.
Nights 4–6 · South
Sleep in one coastal area chosen around your priorities. Keep one beach day and one coast or temple day without crossing the whole island.
Departure
Keep the final morning light and confirm pickup in advance. The margin depends on traffic, terminal and conditions that day.
Visa, levy and mobility do not use the same link
Check eligibility and visa through Indonesian Immigration. The tourist levy, when applicable, is handled through Love Bali. They are separate processes and may change; keep the confirmations rather than relying on one screenshot.
I would not recommend a scooter merely for convenience. Licence, experience, helmet and insurance cover are prior decisions. Without them, an agreed driver or transfer is a valid trip, not an inferior version. Save the contact, full address and the kit you will carry only if luggage is separated in Trekky.
