Bilbao in 3 days: Guggenheim, Old Town and a coast excursion
An itinerary along the river, through the Guggenheim and Old Town, with practical transport and a coast day that can shrink if weather changes.

For three days, use Bilbao as your only base and let the river organise the visit: Guggenheim and Ensanche, the Old Town, then Getxo or Portugalete only in suitable weather. Decide whether you want to enter the museum before assigning half a day to it. The coast is a choice, not an obligation, and needs a simple return plan.
Use the river as a compass
The river leads this route: stay between Ensanche and the Old Town, or by a direct link between them, without moving luggage. Use arrival time to orient yourself along the river and return early enough from the coast on the final day. Separate seeing the Guggenheim building from visiting the collection. If the current exhibition does not suit you, the exterior and river walk leave room for another area without treating the museum as compulsory.

Day 1 · River and Ensanche
Arrival, a river walk and dinner in the same area. Leave the museum out if the journey arrives late.
Day 2 · Museum and Old Town
Guggenheim or exterior walk, a break, then the Old Town. Keep pintxos to one area to avoid zigzagging.
Day 3 · Weather-led coast
Getxo or Portugalete, never both as an obligation; return with margin and finish near your base.
