Quick answer

From A Guarda, roughly 163 km remain to Santiago. The base route uses eight stages with a direct Baiona to Vigo leg; the gentler variant uses nine by splitting it into Baiona to Nigrán and Nigrán to Vigo. Choose one, never both. The official page places A Guarda to Oia at 16.7 km; review each stage, accommodation and service for your dates.

Eight base stages, or nine with the recovery split

Stage 1 · A Guarda → Oia

Sleep in Oia. The official reference is 16.7 km; use it to observe feet, pack weight and pace, not to compete.

Stage 2 · Oia → Baiona

Sleep in Baiona. Confirm water and accommodation; the three priorities are walking, eating and recovering.

Direct stage 3 · 8-stage route

Walk Baiona to Vigo and sleep in Vigo. Choose this only when the effort fits; then continue at stage 4. Do not also walk 3A and 3B.

Stage 3A · 9-stage route

Walk Baiona to Nigrán and sleep in Nigrán. Plan B for pain, rain or fatigue: stop the stage here and notify the next accommodation.

Stage 3B · 9-stage route

Walk Nigrán to Vigo and sleep in Vigo. This branch replaces direct stage 3; then continue at stage 4.

Stage 4 · Vigo → Redondela

Sleep in Redondela, where the coastal variant joins the central route. Confirm the official route you intend to follow.

Stage 5 · Redondela → Pontevedra

Sleep in Pontevedra. Keep water and a rain layer accessible rather than buried in forwarded luggage.

Stage 6 · Pontevedra → Caldas de Reis

Sleep in Caldas. Recheck the next accommodation before handing the pack to a transfer service.

Stage 7 · Caldas → Padrón

Sleep in Padrón. Save energy for the final approach and verify Compostela conditions.

Stage 8 · Padrón → Santiago

Sleep in Santiago. Start with margin, accept pauses and do not attach an onward journey too closely to arrival.

Full pack, transfer or a mixed approach

Full pack

Fit weight to your ability and test it beforehand. A suggested 6–8 kg is neither a medical instruction nor a target.

Luggage transfer

Confirm dates, receiving accommodation, labelling and cutoff. Carry everything needed until the next night.

Mixed approach

Walk with a day bag and retain the ability to carry more if a service fails. The mistake is continuing merely to avoid “breaking” the plan.

Coastal, Litoral and arrows: decide which route you follow

The names are used inconsistently in conversation. The coastal variant enters Galicia through A Guarda and joins the central route at Redondela; download the official reference and confirm each local deviation.

I would book the opening night and places with limited supply first. Save every night, the luggage contact and which Baiona to Vigo branch you will walk in Trekky. Check credential and Compostela rules with the Pilgrim’s Office.
